What Is A Fireplace Blower?

A lot of people find that they enjoy their fireplace so much that they would like to use it as their primary source for heating their home. And for some people, this is something that can be done but if it is not done properly, they will find themselves having problems. The complaints that are most often expressed is that the warm air from the fireplace does not make it to the other side of the room, let alone any of the adjoining rooms. This means that unless this issue is resolved, the fireplace cannot help on saving money from gas bills.

The fix is simple and complex all at the same time because the item needed is easy to purchase but depending on how your wiring is set up in the house, it can be difficult to install. Well, maybe not difficult for those who do well with all of the different do it yourself projects, but time consuming for sure. All a fireplace needs to work more efficiently is a fireplace blower. The fireplace blower is mounted either in front of the fireplace or in a doorway facing out.

When the fireplace blower is placed in front of the fireplace, it makes sure to distribute the warm air throughout the room. But if the room is already being filled with nice warm air then you do not want to do that. Instead, install the fireplace blower facing out in a doorway so that it will push warm air into another room. This means that you are getting more heat for the wood that you are burning and in turn will save money on your heating bills. And you do not have to worry about the fireplace blower affecting your fire’s combustion rate as it was designed with everything in mind.

The only thing is that the fireplace blower will need to be powered by electric so if you do not have the proper electrical outlets near the fireplace or door frame, then some will have to be ran. If you are not a licensed electrician then you should probably call a professional in. Messing with electric when you do not know exactly what you are doing is not safe at all. The installation of a fireplace blower is not worth you risking your life. Have someone come out, run the lines, and then you can install the fireplace blower on your own.

The Importance Of Proper Fireplace Screens

There is no doubt about it, when it comes to fireplace safety, fireplace screens rank on the top of the list. It is important for everyone and every pet in the household to understand that they must stay away from the fireplace while it is burning and even for a while afterwards. This is because the hot ashes are hot enough to still cause some serious burns on people. Make sure that young children fully understand the dangers so that they can be safe from fire at home and at other places.

To make sure that everyone is safe, it is important to make sure that all of the right tools are in place and the fireplace screens are up and stable. This is to protect the family and maybe even your personal belongings so it is important to really take time everyday to check the fireplace screens. It is not enough to leave them alone once you have placed them up because over time they can move or be adjusted in ways that are not truly safe for everyone. This is true no matter which type of fireplace screens you end up going with.

Buying Screens

When heading out to buy fireplace screens, it is important to know what size you truly need to cover the fireplace. If the fireplace screens are not the right size, it will not protect the way it should and it will also look out of place. If you want an older looking screen or something used that has history with it that is fine as long as you really inspect the framework and that it is still in good working condition. If it seems too worn out, then you need to look somewhere else, no matter how pretty it is.

For something that is new, just head out to your local home improvement store, as they will have a few to pick from. Again, you are still going to need the size your fireplace requires because not all fireplaces are the same size. If you really do not like the selection you are finding there, you can always turn to auction sites or web stores for your purchase of fireplace screens although you will be stuck paying for shipping fees. But if it is something that you are going to have for a long time, you do want to make sure it is something you like so the shipping fees may be well worth it.

The winter months can get pretty bitter. And so can you when your toes and fingers are numb. To my knowledge, no one likes to freeze their butt off. It’s just not pleasant. I guess the real concern at-hand here is; how do you plan to keep warm? Well obviously you’re going to bundle up when you venture outdoors into the snowy mess, but I was referring to inside your home. Are all the rooms warm and cozy? Does the central heat kick-on redundantly throughout the day and night? Maybe what you need is an alternative heating source. Possibly a woodstove or contemporary fireplace. These make a wonderful addition to any home.

I’ve always been a wood burning kind of guy myself. When it comes to the contemporary fireplace, I still avoid gas and electric models. Maybe it’s because I grew up with a woodstove in my home, and enjoyed how well it heated our large house. Then again, I could prefer a wood-burning fireplace over a gas one simply because I’ve had both, and the gas version put out less heat. This is a big deal, if you ask me. Naturally I want my fireplace to warm the place up. But that’s not all I want it to do. There’s also the ambience factor. Not much compares to sitting next to a crackling flame with a marshmallow stick in-hand. I can watch the wood burn furiously, while I enjoy a smores or roasted hotdog. That’s living folks! And just because you prefer a contemporary fireplace, doesn’t mean that it can’t be a traditional wood-burning fireplace. Much has to do with the hearth. You can have one installed with the rock, stone or brick texture and color of your choice. There is really no limit to the possibilities now days.

Although the wood-burning fireplace is a blast for some of us, it won’t be for everyone. Many will prefer a more contemporary fireplace that can be lit at the flip of a switch. Well, with a gas or electric fireplace, you can have this. It’s just like switching on a light. And just so you know, an electric fireplace will cost you less than most gas models. You can pick up one of these contemporary fireplaces at Lowe’s or Home Depot. Enjoy the warmth.

There is definitely something elegant and cozy that fire places add to almost any home. They are a great addition, but they are also a lot of work. Many don’t take that into consideration when they have them installed or when they buy a house that is full of them. If you don’t end up using them, you have to have them covered up. If you do use them, they require maintenance. If you don’t do anything at all with them, they can cost you money on your energy bills due to a loss of heat and drafting issues.

When you actively use your fire places, you have to remember to keep them clean. They can be a fire hazard as well, and that means you have to have someone come in to check and clean your chimney at least once a year if not more. You have to keep the ashes cleaned out, and it will add a certain aroma to your home that you may or may not like. If you don’t mind all of those things, you certainly should have fire places if you want to. However, don’t use them but ignore the upkeep or you could be putting your home in danger of burning down.

If you ignore your fire places and are not using them, you may find that you have a draft in the wintertime and that your bills are higher than they need to be. You should always have someone come in to close up your fire places if you don’t intend to use them any time soon. If you think you may use them again in the future, make sure you find someone who can close them up so you may open them again when you wish to start using them again. Some ways of closing up fire places are permanent, so make sure you are specific about what you want done.

Overall, fire places can be great additions to the home, though most only use them once in a while. Safety is an important issue, as many lose their homes to fires because they did not care for them the right way. Always have the number of a good chimney sweep company on hand, and know what to look for if there may be problems. If smoke starts backing up into your home when you use them, you may have blockage that needs to be addressed immediately.

It’s getting frigid out there! This morning I woke up and it was 15 degrees. YES! Now that’s a temperature that will wake you up when you step out that door. Watch your breath freeze in front of you as your fingers and toes begin to numb. Now, how does that feel? Okay, so it probably doesn’t feel or sound too appealing. Luckily we have great ways to keep warm. When we’re outdoors, it’s our high-tech clothing, but when we’re indoors it’s fires and fireplaces. This is what it’s all about. The forced central heat is great and all, but I prefer a nice crackling wood fireplace. These babies can pour out the heat.

You really shouldn’t dismiss a wood-burning fireplace until you’ve tried one. I hear a lot of people do this and it irks me. They go on and on about fires and fireplaces, and how it’s so much better to have gas. Okay, that’s certainly one opinion. I don’t dislike a gas or electric fireplace, but sometimes I want something more. Ah, who am I kidding? I always want something more. Something only a wood-burning fireplace can provide. Sure, gas fireplaces are appealing to most, because of the clean-up issue. You don’t have one. You simply turn on the gas and light the pilot. All it takes to start and stop your fire is the flip of a switch. I enjoyed this for several years, but then cam a time when I wanted my wood-burning fireplace back. I love the option of roasting hotdogs and marshmallows. I can curl up by popping wood and a roaring flame. This is a very relaxing way to lounge in the family room.

For those who’ve never dealt with fires and fireplaces, you should keep a few things in mind when deciding on one. If you want simplicity, aesthetics and heat, but without any hassle, then electric or gas fireplaces are perfect for you. If you want a real flame blazing before you, and don’t mind a little cleanup, then maybe you’d prefer a wood-burning fireplace. Just to give you an idea, when you go with wood-burning fires and fireplaces, you will need wood and you will have to scoop ashes regularly. But, these old-fashioned fireplaces are cheaper now days. The price of gas has gone up, while wood is still fairly inexpensive.

Well, here it comes. I stepped outside today and it was 35 degrees. That’s pretty nippy for September. Heck, I’m satisfied with 65. I think winter may come fast this year. We’re already starting out with a nice brisk fall, and winter is well on its way. So, is everyone prepared for this? I mean, do you have the firewood stacked next to the house and the windows sealed for those frigid nights? Or maybe you’re one of those families who just deal with the natural gas fireplaces. I can’t say that I blame you. The truth of the matter is natural gas fireplaces are much more simple to operate, and there is virtually no clean-up. This sounds like the American way if you ask me. But, how much will it cost you throughout the winter?

Cost is always a major issue in our world. We human beings, regardless of where we reside, like to know how much stuff is going to cost. We don’t really care what it is. We just want to know what kind of deal we’re getting. This is what it’s all about! We want as much as possible while paying the least amount of cash. Does this sound reasonable? Sure it does! This issue certainly arises when it comes to heating our homes in the winter. How much did you fork out last winter to heat you home? I can honestly say that it was too much for us. I don’t care to pay it again this winter. Especially with gas prices on the rise. Oh yeah, about those natural gas fireplaces. These are going to become more pricey to operate as the years go by. Of course I can’t say the same about wood. Sure, I notice a small increase in wood this year, but it’s nothing to be upset about. I figure with the right wood-burning fireplace or woodstove I can heat my entire home for around 400 bucks total. That’s for the entire year. So what do you think of that? How does it compare to forced heat or natural gas fireplaces? I have to say that I don’t think you can even compare the two when it comes to cost. Furthermore, if you have your own dead wood on your own land, you can burn that for free. You just have to do the cutting and hauling. It’s really not difficult.

Anyone can attain any data they need concerning wood-burning or natural gas fireplaces from home. Check out the Internet any time. It divulges all. This year you too are going to have to make a choice between wood-burning and contemporary natural gas fireplaces. It’s all about what you’re willing to spend.

Fake Fireplace

It seems that real fireplaces have gone missing from real homes. More and more people are either covering them up or taking them out completely. Though I understand it can be a pain to care for a fireplace, it is rather easy to take care of them if you are not using them. Instead of getting rid of your fireplace, you may want to leave it for another time. Once you take them out it is almost impossible to get them put back the way they were. Instead of dealing with the real thing, there are a lot of people who choose to have a fake fireplace

Though I think there are many great ones out there, you should never advertise a fake fireplace as a real one. When I went on my honeymoon, the room that we booked said they had a working fireplace. When we got there we found that we had a fake fireplace instead. It wasn’t even a good one. This fake fireplace was nothing more than a plastic log with a light bulb behind it. However, this was the least of our worries, as the place was indeed a nightmare.

If you want to get a fake fireplace for your home, make sure you visit a home improvement store to see what is out there. You may be surprised about how wonderful some of these have become. It used to be that if someone said there was a fake fireplace you knew it was going to be cheesy. This is no longer the case. There have been many great advances in the world of fake fireplaces, and as silly as that sounds, this is good news for the average homeowner. If you want the look of a fireplace without all of the work and the smoke, a fake one is the way to go.

Even if you don’t want to deal with the wood and the smoke, remember that there is still some work involved with a fake fireplace. Unless you want a plastic log and a light bulb, you’re going to have to have some kind of flame in your fake fireplace. Many times these flames are generated by gas or even by electricity. The type of fake fireplace you want to buy will depend upon you and your budget. Don’t be afraid to look around to find the best price, and the perfect fireplace for your needs. It doesn’t have to look completely authentic, as long as it gives you the feel of a real fireplace.

As you step indoors from the harsh winter climate, all you can think about is getting warm. At least that’s how the routine goes in my neck of the woods. When it comes to January and February, the temperatures are often below zero. That kind of frigid, bitter cold will make you year for a nice fireplace. A wood-burning unit or corner gas fireplace that offers nice clean heat, just raring to warm up those frozen extremities. Because let’s face it; no one really likes being cold. Sure, they may enjoy the winter months, but that’s because they have a nice cozy home to stay warm in. It goes the same for any time of year. We need that place that offers us comfort and a moderate climate to relax in.

For those who do not have a traditional wood-stove or corner gas fireplace of some sort, you’re seriously missing out. The ambience alone is well worth it. Nothing adds to your homestead like a gentle crackling flame. Talk about relaxation. Try turning off all the lights and just kicking back in front of a corner gas fireplace with a cup of coffee. Now that’s what life is all about. Some folks adore wood-burning, gas, and electric fireplaces for the mere appeal they offer and some prefer the extra heating source as well. I am one that enjoys all aspects of a fireplace. Okay, so maybe I don’t love cleaning the ashes out of the darn thing regularly, but if you’re interested in a corner gas fireplace, you won’t have to worry much about maintenance. The truth is gas fireplaces don’t require hardly any attention at all. You keep the pilot light lit and pay the gas bill, and you’re set. There is no mess to clean up, there is no fire wood to purchase, chop up or stack. All you need to know is how to flip a switch and relax.

In this day and age, most individuals and families steer toward the corner gas fireplace or electric option. They love the convenience of it all and enjoy the simplicity. Having a fine corner gas fireplace is pretty much like having your cake and eating it too. You get all the benefits of a cozy traditional fireplace, but without all the mess. Welcome to the future.

If you’ve never had a wood burning fireplace in your home, then I say you’re seriously missing out. Then again, if you’ve had a wood stove, it’s fairly similar. Personally I prefer a wood burning fireplace because it offers such a wonderful comfort to a family room. You can kick back with your loved ones, toss another log on the crackling flame, and watch the wood burning fireplace dance about in the dim room as you enjoy a good movie. It’s totally relaxing and not really the same as forced heat. I mean don’t get me wrong; forced central heating is great, but it’s also outstanding to have a wood burning fireplace complimenting your home’s interior. Hey, if you don’t already have one, you could have one installed.

The first time I was exposed to a wood burning fireplace was probably around age 6. I was visiting my aunt’s house, which was a rare occasion at best. Anyway, my cousin and I decided to sleep on the living room floor, next to the wood burning fireplace. It was just so relaxing. My father had dumped a massive log on it for the night and closed the safety screen so that nothing could jump out and start a fire. This is always crucial if you have a fireplace or wood stove. You absolutely must make certain that you keep an eye on it and keep the safety screen in front of it. You don’t want a red-hot coal leaping out onto the carpet. This could mean the end of your home or worse. Not that a gas fireplace is completely safe either. I mean come on; we’re talking about gas. This always makes me imagine the gas leaking and the house exploding. I will stick to my cozy wood burning fireplace, thank you.

I just purchased a cord of wood for the winter. This is plenty for our wood burning fireplace since it’s more of an amenity than it is a necessity. We do have central heating, so there is no reason to try and heat our entire home with the fire place. This would require a more efficient wood burning fireplace. These are not difficult to come by in this day and age. If you are interested in costs and estimates, then I suggest you get online for some current prices. Maybe a wood burning fireplace could compliment your home.

Nothing is more cozy than a roaring fire, especially in the winter time. Although few people look for a working fireplace when they are buying a house, in truth having one greatly increase your quality of life. Unfortunately, many people do not have fireplaces, and find the cost of having one installed to be prohibitive. It does not occur to them that building a fireplace is really within the means of any person, if they are willing to take the time to learn the proper procedure and get the right tools for the job.

In the first place, you can get information on how to build a fireplace practically anywhere. From Google to self-help books at your local library to any decent sized bookstore, the possibilities are endless. Whether you are just looking to build a fireplace mantle, or you need to install the whole fireplace, there will be plans for your project readily available. But, of course, plans are one thing, tools are another. Fortunately, for building a fireplace or any other home improvement project, there are tool lending libraries in almost every city nowadays. You can use these to borrow, usually for free, anything you need to build a fireplace.

Of course, the most difficult thing about building a fireplace is the actual building part. If you have never done a major construction job on your home before, the first time can be rather intimidating. If you are just fixing your bike, say, and you make a mistake, it is easy to go back and redo anything that you might need to. If you are building a fireplace, It can be much more of a problem. If, for example, you cut a whole in the wall that is too big for building a fireplace, you will have to redo the whole project. Either you will need to build a bigger fireplace, or you will have to fill in the gap with extra bricks, either of which will make much more work for you, and possibly not look quite as good. This is why the very most important thing is to take your time when building a fireplace. Before you take any step, try it out in miniature to make sure that you understand it. Lay a few bricks before you begin laying the actual fireplace, for example. That way, you can work out any kinks before they complicate or even ruin your project.

When I was a kid, outdoor fire pits were all the rage. Practically everyone I knew had one in their backyard. That is because I lived way out in the country. There was not much to do out there, but it was sure beautiful to be there. Our main activity was basically hanging out, drinking, and sitting around the fire. A backyard fireplace, needless to say, was an essential.

When I grew up, I decided to build an outdoor fireplace. I moved to the city, and fired pits seemed a little bit primitive and backwards to me. An outdoor fireplace seemed like a logical extension of the principal. I started off with an outdoor brick fireplace. I didn’t really know how to build it, and at first it was little more than a fire pit with a grill over it. I tried again, but I couldn’t get quite the right design. I was sort of sick of having everything take on a rustic look, and I wanted something that looked more sculpted and professional. Although my outdoor fireplace was quite functional – it worked for barbecues and provided warmth while holding back embers – it was still a little bit quaint and backwards. All of my friends were pretty classy people, and I didn’t really want to look like a backwoods bumpkin anymore.

That is why I finally went out and bought an outdoor fireplace kit from a Home Depot store. I like to make things myself, but the kit allowed me to put in some work while still coming out with a good finished product. It seemed like a great compromise. It turned out really good too. A lot of the time, kits don’t really come together quite right. Either something will be missing, something will be defective, or the instructions will be so vague that it is almost impossible to get things right the first time. None of these were the case, however. It took me most of the day to put together, but that was okay. By the end, I had something I could really be proud of.

As soon as they saw it, most my friends wanted to get outdoor fireplaces as well. A lot of them have been using outdoor gas grills, but this seemed even cooler. Don’t get me wrong – an outdoor grill is cool. Still, there is nothing quite like having a nice, fireplace that you can sit around with people you love.

There’s nothing quite like a traditional fireplace. Sure, you have to chop and stack the wood, if you don’t purchase it by the cord, and you have to scoop out the ashes regularly, but the maintenance is well worth the pleasure. I have had a wood-burning fireplace for a couple of years now and have to admit that I love it much more than a gas fireplace or and electric one that plugs in. Those new-age conveniences are missing something crucial. They lack the coziness of the whipping flames and crackling wood. I need these things when I lounge before the fireplace. The only problem with my wood-burning fireplace is the exterior. It’s marble with brass trim. This does not appeal to me and my family. And that’s why were looking into granite fireplaces.

I love the way we have so many choices today. You can get things exactly the way you prefer them; and you can easily alter the ones you already have. This is the way it should be. After all, we all like and prefer different things; therefore variety is imperative in our world. While some folks may enjoy a marble hearth on their fireplace, my wife and I do not. We are totally enamored by the granite fireplaces. Especially the dark and rustic looking ones. That’s right up my alley. I guess you could say that I’m not a modern-day male in some ways. I don’t go gaga over gas fireplaces, fashion, men’s jewelry, and sports. Give me the rustic elements and Mother Nature any day. I want to be able to split wood and roast marshmallows on my wood-burning fire. These are things you can’t do with the gas and electric fireplaces.

After some web surfing, I realized that granite fireplaces are totally feasible to add on your own if you’re dealing with contemporary kits. This is the key! You can check out what all is available on your laptop and then purchase the granite fireplace kit of your choice. Install it on your own and save some serious cash. That labor cost may be more than what you’re willing to part with. It often is for me. I have found that most of us can install so many things and make altercations to our homes without professional assistance. There are even websites to walk us through it. Don’t be afraid to check out granite fireplaces and kits on your own. As I’m sure you’re already aware, the costs of granite fireplaces will vary.

Fireplace accessories come in many designs and styles. Each accessory for the unit has a specific use. Some of the items are absolute necessities while others may leave you scratching your head. There are even some fireplace accessories that are decorative in nature and are not meant for actual use.

Items that look nice but serve no particular function aren’t as odd as you may think. Some fireplace accessories are purely decorative in nature. I discovered this the hard way when staying with my aunt one winter. I figured that I would clean out the fireplace for her and start a nice, new fire in place of the ashes and burnt wood scraps.

While my aunt was pretty happy with my efforts she did mention that the fireplace accessories on the hearth were really designed for show and not for use. This left me scratching my head but I did finally understand why the fireplace accessories were made of shiny brass.

I just thought that she took really good care of the brass fireplace accessories. I really didn’t think much about whether or not they were supposed to be used. Good thing that I only used them once. There was really little sign that the items had been used at all. This did bring up another question about her fireplace accessories.

What did she use to clean the hearth and fireplace if the decorative items were off the list? She showed me a cast iron set of fireplace accessories that she kept in a cupboard right next to the hearth. I had no idea why she kept these beautiful tools hidden. I thought that they looked as great as the brass.

Her only answer was that she liked to hide dirt. I guess that having fireplace accessories designed for show on the hearth and ones for use in a cupboard was a good idea if you want to keep ashes out of sight no matter what.

Now that I have my own fireplace, I decided to forgo buying fireplace accessories for show. I like to put the tools on the hearth to good use. This could be due to simple laziness or it may just be because I am incurably cheap.

No matter what reasons I have I will always think fondly of my aunt’s brass fire tools. I just won’t ever own a set. I really think that the cast iron fireplace accessories are as attractive as the shiny brass, ashes and all.

How do you stay warm during those harsh winter months? Do you hide out under a massive wool blanket with a cup of hot cocoa until the snow has melted? Hey, don’t laugh; my eldest daughter does this. Or at least it seems like this is what she does. She’s always shuffling around the house fluffy slippers on and a thick blanket draped around her shoulders. I prefer a slightly simpler approach. It’s called an indoor fireplace. Yeah, you’ve surely come across this concept at some point or another. Heck, you may even have an indoor fireplace of your own. There are so many variations to pick and choose from now days, I really don’t see how anyone can go wrong with this wonderful house-warming amenity.

I absolutely love an indoor fireplace. Now, just so I’m clear on the matter, I’m not referring to a new-age gas fireplace. Don’t get me wrong. I can go on all day about how convenient these are and how enjoyable they can be during the cold season. However, I don’t feel that they’re quite what I’m looking for. I’m really into the old-school method of heating a home. Therefore when I mention an indoor fireplace, I am talking about wood-burning. Have you ever had the pleasure of dealing with a wood-burning indoor fireplace? It’s gratifying on many levels. There’s definitely a certain nostalgia to the process. You get to chop the firewood, stack it and prepare it for winter. You get to build and nurture a warm crackling flame each time you want to use it. Hey, you even get to routinely scoop out the ashes. Okay, well that’s the only irksome part in my book. The rest of it I love. This of course pleases my wife as well. Although she is partial to a wood-burning indoor fireplace, she doesn’t care for any of the work involved. That’s okay, because I find it gratifying.

How do you choose which indoor fireplace concept is right for you? Well, I suggest you consider a few things. I already mentioned what is involved with a wood-burning fireplace. Now, with a gas indoor fireplace it’s simpler. As long as your pilot light is lit, you only need to flip a switch and start your fireplace. Oh, and don’t forget to pay that gas bill. Furthermore, you’ll also want to consider the fact that a wood-burning fireplace works regardless of whether or not your power is out, and you can cook on it if you should need or want to. This is important to me when it comes to the indoor fireplace.

There is nothing that brings memories of winters gone by better than a wood burning fireplace. The atmosphere a simple item like this can create is one of nostalgic warmth and comfort. Not many homes have a wood burning fireplace but there is a move towards recreating this traditional element in homes across the country.

Generations ago people did not have any other way to heat their homes aside from their wood burning fireplace. As advances in technology and home construction took hold fewer and fewer homes came equipped with this necessity of years gone past. Furnaces made the wood burning fireplace practically obsolete.

Some homes still had the element in their structure because they were built during a time when fireplaces were necessary to heat the rooms of the home. In fact, many older homes had a wood burning fireplace in nearly every room. As the need for this heating source dwindled so did the production of such elements.

When I was a child my family moved into an old Victorian home. At the time I didn’t know why certain part of the wall in some rooms stood out. My mother explained that there used to be a wood burning fireplace in many of the rooms. This was how the original owners kept the house warm.

Later, a furnace was placed in the old Victorian home that served to heat the entire house without the nuisance of having to start a fire and keep it going all day and all night long. The owners of the home had each wood burning fireplace filled and covered with plaster. The magnificent fireplaces stayed behind the plaster for many, many years.

That is until we moved into the house. My mother decided that we should enjoy the appearance of the wood burning fireplace in our living room. She took a hammer to the plaster and began chipping away. My brother and I were more than happy to join her as her wrecking crew.

We found that the wood burning fireplace was made entirely of brick. The previous owner poured cement into the chimney to close the space. We would never be able to have a fire but we could enjoy looking at the beautiful brick structure. My parents built a lovely mantle for the non-working wood burning fireplace that really brought the whole look together.

We moved out of the old Victorian home years ago but I remember dreaming of the original owners sitting in front of their wood burning fireplace.

Fireplace mantel surrounds offer wonderful options for your interior design. There is a wide variety of choices that you can browse and there are also some choices to make in the kind of fireplace mantel surrounds you purchase. Some units are user-friendly while others require some skill.

I thought that we were going to have a really hard time finding a product to suit our needs. Our fireplace mantel surrounds need to accommodate tile settings already in the unit. I really wasn’t keen on the idea of losing the beautiful tile just because we needed a new fireplace mantel surrounds. While this did limit our options just a bit, we didn’t have any trouble finding a great product to suit our home.

The next obstacle was agreeing on whether we wanted to paint our fireplace mantel surrounds or whether we wanted hardwood. Considering that we have hard wood floors all through the house, the latter seemed like the appropriate choice. However, we found that painting our fireplace mantel surrounds would be a better option.

Even though the place we were buying from offered unfinished wood, we found that this wasn’t the best approach. Matching the hardwood flooring to the wood used for the fireplace unit would be too difficult and we really wanted to add some unusual color in the home. We already have wood beams on the ceiling and wooden baseboards. It seemed as if adding more wood in the fireplace mantle surrounds was just overkill.

The third thing we had to consider before choosing which of the many fireplace mantel surrounds would suit our space was which kit to buy. There are two basic types offered by the store we browsed: the Homeowner and the Builder. Just by the names of these kits, I had a pretty good idea that we were going to choose the Homeowner kit for our home.

The major difference between the two types of fireplace mantel surrounds kits is the skill required to put the pieces together. Considering that the Builder kit requires a miter saw, we immediately opted to buy the Homeowner’s kit. I’m glad we did.

All we had to do was put the preassembled pieces together and attach them to the wall. Everything we needed was included in the kit and we had the whole thing up and running in little time at all. The instructions were a breeze to follow and I would recommend this option for anyone who is interested in fireplace mantel surrounds.

Do you enjoy a nice toasty fireplace? Hey, who the heck doesn’t? In reality most of us love to relax by a nice cozy fire even if we don’t like the winter time. Yeah you may hate the snow outside, but I bet you like those crackling flames. These days the question arises concerning which fireplace is the best or most efficient. Do you prefer natural gas fireplaces or the more classic wood-burning fireplaces? It’s all a personal preference thing if you ask me. I am one of the few I know that actually prefers the real wood fire over the contemporary natural gas fireplaces. However, you may not agree.

What are the benefits of natural gas fireplaces? This is where it all begins. I think when you’re trying to decide between two things, you should always write down the pros and the cons. Well, with natural gas fireplaces you don’t have any clean-up. This is always awesome and quite handy. We all know that with wood-burning fires, you will always have the ashes to deal with. That’s no surprise. However, with traditional wood-burning fireplaces you can roast hot dogs and marshmallows. We absolutely love that in my house. What beats a smores on a cold winter night. Unfortunately natural gas fireplaces cannot provide this option. Then there is the cost of it all. Which costs more; wood or natural gas? This may depend on your area. Although I typically hear that wood is less expensive, I would check into this before making any rash conclusions. Where I live you can purchase a cord of firewood for around 125 bucks. Now, this is all I use in the fall and winter put together. However, you should remember that I am not heating my home with a fireplace only. To do this would probably take three times this much. Finally there is the simplicity of it all. With natural gas fireplaces all you have to do is walk in the room and flip a switch. I think this is the main thing many people enjoy. Me on the other hand, I love building a fire each time. This is probably linked back to my childhood. It’s something I always did with my father. Therefore it has a certain nostalgic quality to it.

If you would like to attain more information on natural gas fireplaces and wood-burning fireplaces, just get online. Check out the prices of natural gas versus wood in your area. And remember, much of it comes down to personal preference.

When it’s frigid cold outside and the central heat is kicking-in non-stop, you may start to worry about the power bill. This is understandable. Most of us hate to get stuck at the end of each month with a nasty gas or electric invoice. Maybe it’s time you started using some alternative heating methods. Ever heard of the modern fireplace? There are plenty of options now days, and some won’t even have you cleaning up ashes and stacking wood out back. Even if you don’t currently have a fireplace at all, one can be installed. Are you ready to warm up next to a nice cozy flame, or maybe roast a marshmallow or two?

Imagine you just stepped inside after a two hour snowball fight with the kids. It may have been a blast out there, but now your fingers and toes are frozen and you can’t seem to get warm. Hey, if you had a modern fireplace to cuddle up next to, I’m sure that would do the trick. And so begins the options. In this day and age you can choose from wood-burning, gas or electric. Just so you know, any home is ready for an electric fireplace. I guess you could call this the epitome of the modern fireplace. You simply purchase it, and set it up in the room of your choice. Recently my wife has been pestering me to put one in our bedroom. That woman is always cold. Anyway, you’ll want to consider the options. Take into consideration what you want/expect from the fireplace. If you want it to heat your entire home at a cheaper cost than gas, then maybe what you’re looking for is a hefty wood-burning fireplace. They do make these that heat over 80 percent of the home. Or, if you want a modern fireplace with absolutely no mess or clean up, then a gas fireplace is perfect. All it takes is the flip of a switch, and you’re lounging before a gentle flame. Most of these gas fireplaces come with blowers to force the heat out into the room. This is probably the most popular choice of fireplace on the market today. People crave convenience.

You can start searching for your modern fireplace by getting online. Take a gander at the prices and options available from various suppliers. That perfect fireplace you’ve been dreaming about is out there. Let it warm you up this winter.
